In our world today, food waste is a significant issue. When we throw away food, it ends up in landfills where it decomposes and releases methane, a potent greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change. But there’s a solution to this problem, and it starts with us!
At The Barn of Egypt, we’re passionate about making a positive impact on our planet. That’s why we’ve launched a new initiative that turns food waste into a resource, and we’re inviting you to be a part of it.
Here’s how it works:
Save Your Food Scraps: Instead of throwing away your food scraps, save them! These include fruit peels, vegetable cuttings, coffee grounds, eggshells, remnant food, yam peels, cartons and more. These organic materials are rich in nutrients, decompose beautifully and perfect for composting. If you have plastics or iron/metal parts you’ll like to get rid off also, please differentiate them by packing them in different packaging. We’ll be happy to process them for recycling also.
- Send them in: For now, due to slight difficulty in logistics, we offer free pickup for food waste (10kg and above) only in the Jabi District of Abuja – Nigeria. For those buying from our recycled market offerings, we also offer free pickup of food waste on the supply of delivered recycled products. Nonetheless, we are working very hard to set up Local Collection Points (L.C.Ps) in different districts so that customers can drop off their food waste at their convenience. We are also open to Local Partnerships that support this vision. Otherwise call us on 08168121268 or 08174522984 and we can organise Scheduled Pickups depending on the volume of food waste.
Earn Points: Now for every 10kg of food waste you save, we’ll reward you with 1000 Naira worth of points. This also extends to plastics and iron/metal parts. This is our way of saying thank you for joining us in our mission to protect the Earth.
Shop with Us: You can use your points to purchase items from our recycled products shop. Not only will you be getting great products, but you’ll also be supporting a sustainable business model.
